Many people ask me if it really matters if a product is friendly to Mother Earth or not. For us that means a natural product that lasts for many years, can be recycled or even upcycled in some cases. It also means products that are made and grown in the earth naturally. Why is it important?
One only has to look at our landfills, oceans, forests and wild animals to understand the impact we as humans are having on the planet. We use, discard, and destroy without a backward glance. We throw our plastic, paper and tin into the garbage for the garbage collectors without a thought as to where it will end up. If something breaks, we just throw it away.
We have to break this cycle somehow and the only way is to start. I was instrumental in getting a block of 44 flats to recycle. It took 2 years to get it working properly but it cut the weekly garbage collection in half. We even started a worm-farm….well we tried but we managed to kill the worms twice through sheer ignorance. What I am saying is that it is possible but it requires effort. No effort, no result.
So I am going to carry banging on about the subject because I know it is possible to change people’s perspective once they see the value in it. Problem is, people are used to fake perfection. Children today will not eat an apple if there’s a tiny imperfection. How real is that? We sell handmade gifts for example and the joy is that each one is slightly different. We have to show and teach our children that perfect is not always the way nature intended or even possible in reality.
That is why every single product sold through AnnMack adheres to this criteria. It has taken 3 years to find the right suppliers, people who follow the same principles and beliefs and who take the issue of “Earth-Friendly” as seriously as we do.
